Best Portable Outdoor and Shower Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker by AYL

What I love about this portable outdoor Bluetooth speaker is that we can use it on a boat and not worry about splashing.

It is compact enough to set properly where needed, and it has weight, so it will not just fall over. The sound quality is very good compared to competitors as well. If you are looking for something to gift for the fisherman, hunter, construction worker or contractor, hiker, boater and more, this is definitely it.

One thing that I wanted to mention is the rubber that surrounds the product, if you drop it, I am certain it will not break, In fact, it is the only speaker of this sort that I have come across that I actually feel good, knowing it is well built to last. Overall, durable, high quality, great sound, water-proof, recharges quickly, and so much more.

Really, a must have in almost any situation.

"Many Bluetooth speakers on the market today just don't offer premium sound quality, but the SoundFit wireless shower speaker is different! Our outdoor Bluetooth speaker features a powerful 5-watt audio driver, allowing it to give you concert quality sound wherever you go. Compare that to the 3-watt audio drivers found in many outdoor speakers, and it's easy to see why our Bluetooth shower speaker is the absolute best choice for those who want to hear every note of the melody and feel the bass thumping.

With the SoundFit wireless shower speaker, you can enjoy up to 10 hours of music anywhere you go, and our wireless speakers outdoor housing is rugged enough to withstand routine bumps and shakes when you're transporting it. When it does come time to charge, you can have the battery completely replenished in just 4 hours, so you won't be without music for long!"

  • Five cars are on display, each in a different colour which will also be available on the production range
  • More technical and performance details are announced, including the headline 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds and top speed of 191 mph
  • Light weight and advanced technologies result in class-leading emissions of just 198g/km
  • Drive-centred interior features advanced new human-machine interface and state-of-the-art Harmon Kardon audio system
  • Pricing for LHD markets is announced – UK pricing will be announced at a later date
The all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio makes its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (Sept 17 – 27) with no fewer than five examples of the high-performance saloon on display across Alfa Romeo’s striking and impressive new stand, each finished in a different colour: Competizione Red, Trofeo White, Vulcano Black, Vesuvio Grey and Montecarlo Blue.

New Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Built on an all-new, rear-wheel drive platform with an emphasis on light weight and agility, the sporty underpinnings of the new Giulia define its shape and strongly influence its design with Alfa Romeo stylists wrapping the mechanical components in a taut, muscular package dominated by its long bonnet, short overhangs, muscular haunches and the longest wheelbase in its class. Simple, natural lines enhance its shape and proportions, while the surface is finished with elegance and restraint, exuding the purity and style one comes to expect of Italian design.

Under the bonnet beats the heart of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, an all-aluminium, 2.9-litre turbo petrol V6 engine, inspired by Ferrari technology and expertise, which produces 510hp and 600Nm of torque, resulting in a top speed of 191mph (307 km/h) and a 0 – 62mph (100 km/h) time of just 3.9 seconds. Despite this high levels of performance, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio also returns best in class CO2 emissions levels at just 198g/km, largely thanks to its electronically-controlled cylinder disabling system and excellent aerodynamics.

Transmitting this performance to the road is a sophisticated and advanced suspension system:
The front employs a new double wishbone suspension with semi-virtual steering axis that was developed to optimise the filtering effect and guarantee rapid, accurate steering – the quickest steering ratio in its class, in fact! This exclusive Alfa Romeo feature keeps the caster trail constant in corners allowing higher levels of lateral accelerations thanks to its always-perfect footprint.

The rear is underpinned by an advanced multi-link set up, with electronically-controlled Torque Vectoring on the rear differential allowing the driver explore the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio’s handling without ever having running up against an invasive stability control system. A new Integrated Brake System (IBS) – an innovative electromechanical system which combines stability control and a traditional servo brake for instantaneous brake response and consequent record-breaking stopping distances – is also being introduced on the new Alfa Romeo, resulting in a stopping distance from 62mph (100km/h) of just 32m. A new Active Aero Splitter, a front aerodynamic aid which actively manages downforce for higher performance and better grip at higher cornering speeds, also debuts on the new Alfa Romeo Giulia.

All of the Alfa Romeo Giulia’s state-of-the-art systems are governed by the Chassis Domain Control (CDC), a technology developed jointly with Magneti Marelli which acts like the car's 'brains' and coordinates all the on-board electronics. The system manages the action of the various features –  Torque Vectoring, Active Aero Splitter, active suspension, brakes, steering and ESC system – according to the mode selected by the driver using the new Alfa DNA Pro.

Four driving configurations are available: Dynamic, Natural, Advanced Efficiency (a new energy efficiency mode) and, of course, Race on high performance versions. Underpinning the dynamic capabilities of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio are its low kerb weight of just 1,524kg and perfect 50:50 weight distribution which are achieved by using ultralight materials including carbon fibre (prop shaft, bonnet, roof), aluminium (engine, brakes, suspension, front suspension turrets, rear subframe, doors, wings) and aluminium composite and plastic (rear crossmember). Carbon ceramic disc brakes and ultra-light carbon fibre Sparco seats are also available.

The same attention to detail has been lavished on the interior of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, offering the best in terms of quality, safety, equipment and comfort. All the main controls, including the start button, are incorporated in the steering wheel as on a Formula 1 car, while the human-machine interface consists of two simple, user-friendly knobs for adjusting the Alfa DNA Pro selector and the Connect 3D Nav infotainment system.

The Connect 3D Nav of Alfa Romeo Giulia – also developed with Magneti Marelli – offers a sophisticated series of features and functions, including a next-generation HMI human-machine interface. The system is mostly controlled by means of the Rotary Pad and viewed using the 8.8-inch TFT display integrated in the dashboard but it can also be controlled via an advanced voice recognition system and a gesture recognition system with which the driver can interact by simply moving their fingers on the Rotary Pad.

Connect 3D Nav also allows full connectivity with all mobile devices running Apple iOS and Android operating systems, while the navigation system employs high-resolution 3D TomTom maps and Dead Reckoning technology to compensate for areas with poor GPS reception.

Audiophiles will welcome the availability of a sophisticated Harman Kardon Sound Theatre system, which debuts on Alfa Romeo Giulia and uses a 12-channel class D amplifier and Logic 7® technology to distributes rich, clear 5.1 surround sound through high-quality 14 speakers.

UK sales of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio will begin in the autumn of 2016 with pricing to be announced at a later date. Pricing for left-hand drive markets has been announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, positioning it in direct competition with key performance car rivals while offer higher levels of performance and more advanced technologies.

JAGUAR LAND ROVER WELCOMES RECORD INTAKE OF 600 GRADUATES AND APPRENTICES – THE TALENT OF THE FUTURE

Jaguar Land Rover's record intake of apprentices and graduates on their first day at the company. Pictured with Kenton Cool and Sarah Richards, Jaguar Land Rover Head of Learning and Development.

  • Nearly 600 new graduates and apprentices begin their careers with Jaguar Land Rover
  • The recruits are the first to start their training as part of the newly-formed Jaguar Land Rover Academy
  • Business Secretary praises Jaguar Land Rover for backing the next generation of British talent
  • Some 2,500 have joined tailored graduate and apprenticeship programmes in last five years
  • Search for 2016 graduate and undergraduate intake launched this week
Jaguar Land Rover has welcomed nearly 600 new graduates and apprentices to the business this week, the company’s highest intake to date.  Today the Government’s Business Secretary, Sajid Javid, met some of the company’s trainees and praised Jaguar Land Rover for backing the next generation of British talent.

Sajid Javid said: “It is great for Britain that we have got such a successful automotive industry and the graduates and apprentices joining Jaguar Land Rover this week will have an important role to play in building on that success in the future.  I congratulate the new intake on securing the opportunity to work at the heart of the renaissance of the British car industry.  Companies like Jaguar Land Rover are backing the next generation of British talent, helping people to build careers and boosting the country’s productivity.”

With some 2,500 employees having started their careers on Jaguar Land Rover’s graduate, advanced and higher apprentice programmes over the past five years, this year’s intake is the largest to date and more than 100 up on last year.

Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, met the new recruits on Monday.  He commented: “I am proud to welcome tomorrow’s engineers, technicians and innovators at the very beginning of their career with the company.  This is an exciting time to join our business.  We are investing significantly in the future of Jaguar Land Rover by creating very special vehicles for our discerning customers and, just as importantly by employing and developing the highly skilled people that will help ensure our continued success.”

The new graduates and apprentices are the first to start their training as part of the Jaguar Land Rover Academy, which was officially launched this week.  The new Academy will offer learning and development for employees at all stages of their working lives with the company, whether they are new recruits or more experienced employees seeking to move to the next level in the organisation.

This “lifelong learning” will follow a structured plan, delivering training that is relevant to changing business requirements and enabling employees to progress their careers at Jaguar Land Rover.
The Business Secretary met the apprentices and graduates at a UK car industry event held by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) today, ahead of next week’s Frankfurt international motor show.  At Frankfurt, Jaguar Land Rover will be showcasing its British designed, engineered and produced vehicles.  As part of this, the company promises a dramatic reveal of the all-new Jaguar F-PACE, the brand’s first performance crossover.

The graduates and apprentices have begun their programmes with a joint formal induction week at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.  Designed to inspire participants, the induction has included motivational talks from Richard Noble, the former land speed record holder and Kenton Cool, one of the world’s leading high-altitude climbers.  Those attending have also had the chance to put questions to Dr Speth and other members of the company’s executive committee, familiarise themselves with the latest vehicles and have a glimpse at the future line-up.

Jaguar Land Rover’s undergraduate placement scheme is increasingly becoming a feeder for the graduate programme, with 85 of the 333 graduates joining this week previously having been on paid undergraduate placements with the company.

Similarly, the company’s Young Women In The Know course has led to an increase in the number of females taking up advanced and higher apprenticeships at Jaguar Land Rover.  14 of the girls who took the course last year are amongst the 46 new female apprentices.  The Young Women In The Know initiative, launched in August 2013 as part of Jaguar Land Rover’s wider education outreach, offers female students aged 15 – 18 a unique insight into engineering, technology and manufacturing careers.

Fourteen of the record intake of apprentices attended the Young Women In The Know course before applying to Jaguar Land Rover

Danella Bagnall, Vehicle Programme Director at Jaguar Land Rover is a great role model: "I started my career as an apprentice 26 years ago which was a great way of continuing education, developing skills, and getting into industry.  I am now an engineering director, which demonstrates the excellent career progression opportunities available to women in a modern engineering-led business like Jaguar Land Rover.  I would thoroughly recommend a career in engineering to girls."

To apply for the 2016 graduate programme or undergraduate work placements, students should go to www.jaguarlandrovercareers.com.  Recruitment for the graduate and undergraduate programmes began this week and closes on 31st December 2015.

The recruitment window for advanced and higher apprenticeships opens on 5th October 2015, with the deadline for apprentice applications also being 31st December 2015.

CATERHAM CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF ICONIC SUPERLIGHT WITH NEW SPECIAL EDITION

CATERHAM CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF ICONIC SUPERLIGHT WITH NEW SPECIAL EDITION

  • Limited run of 1.6-litre ‘Superlight Twenty’ to celebrate raucous 1996 original
  • Original Superlight became the template for a generation of Sevens
  • New Superlight Twenty SE gets 135bhp, 6-speed gearbox, LSD and carbon fibre components
Caterham has revived the spirit of one of its most illustrious Sevens - the boisterous 1.6-litre Seven Superlight – with the launch of a new special edition model.

Just 20 of the special edition cars – launched at this weekend’s Goodwood Revival ahead of the 20th anniversary of the original Superlight in 1996 – will be built.

The original Superlight’s production run ceased in 2004, but it heralded a new era of purposeful, track-biased Sevens designed to offer even more performance and low weight at a pared down price point.

Despite its ultra-minimalist character – even for a Seven – the Superlight went on to become one of Caterham’s most coveted models, selling some 200 examples while in production.

Priced at £29,995*, and sporting a similarly extreme spec sheet to that of the original, the Superlight Twenty receives a 135bhp 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine, 6-speed close ratio gearbox, ‘Sport’ suspension pack, lightweight flywheel and a limited slip differential.

The bodywork benefits from numerous carbon fibre components, including its cycle wings, rear wings, nose and minimalist aero screen. The body is finished in bare aluminium, as per the original Superlight, which saves six kilograms further contributing to the ultra-lightweight approach.
The new vehicle also gets a numbered dash plaque, unique gauges, key and a gear knob bearing the ‘Superlight Twenty’ motif and is equipped with a titanium coloured chassis, carbon interior panels and specially-embroidered carbon sports seats found only on Caterham’s flagship model; the Seven 620 R.

The special edition is only available as a Series 3 chassis with a limited list of options; in keeping with the minimalistic theme of the model. Just paint, weather equipment and a heater are available.
Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald, said: “When Caterham created the original Superlight, it was a big hit. We sold every one we built and it inspired the development of future models.
“As well all the five-star reviews and animated feedback from customers for its driver appeal and roisterous character, it always represented excellent value by being a genuinely accessible performance car bargain – which is why we’ve tried to recreate that magic by celebrating the 20th anniversary of its launch.”

By no means the fastest Seven produced to date – the new model will hit 60mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 122mph – it is however one of the most visceral performance models Caterham has built since the original. Every Seven meets slightly different driver demands, but perhaps more than any other in the range, the Superlight Twenty epitomises Colin Chapman’s fundamental principles of performance through light weight.

Macdonald continued: “Those unable to buy one first time around now have the opportunity to snap up one of a limited run of vehicles – it’s not an exact replica of the original but it’s most definitely cut from the same cloth and we know customers will love it for all the same reasons.”

The order book for the Superlight Twenty opens immediately, priced at £29,995*.

NEW PORSCHE 911 CARRERA BOOSTS EFFICIENCY AND EXPANDS DYNAMIC REPERTOIRE

NEW PORSCHE 911 CARRERA

New engines, an advanced chassis, new Porsche Communication Management

A new Porsche 911 is always highly anticipated - and the latest generation announced today is no exception.

The core appeal of the rear-mounted flat-six engine in the 911 and its characteristic sporting driving experience resonate with owners and enthusiasts alike. This reputation for responsive and dynamic performance, forged both on the road and race track, coupled with unparalleled everyday usability, underpins the unstinting appeal of the 911.

The 911 has been the world’s best-selling sports car for decades. Now, the new generation has arrived, equipped to extend this status ever ahead into the future. New highlights include innovative twin-turbocharged flat-six engines, an advanced chassis with an even greater spread between performance and comfort, and a new infotainment system. With the benefit of more than four decades of experience with turbocharging – in both motor racing and production sports cars – the new engines in the new 911 Carrera set benchmarks in terms of performance, driving pleasure and efficiency.
The new option of rear-axle steering, available on the Carrera S models for the first time, further extends the range of dynamic virtuosity. The fastest lap time around the North Loop of the Nürburgring is reduced to 7 minutes and 30 seconds – ten seconds faster than before.

Many exterior features of the 911 Carrera have been visually refined: these include new headlights with four-point daytime running lights, handles inset to the door panel without recess covers, a redesigned engine lid with vertical louvres and new tail lights – including the now characteristic four-point brake light Porsche motif. Inside, a new Porsche Communication Management with an enhanced multi-touch display console offers a considerably expanded range of functions and greatly simplified operation.

NEW PORSCHE 911 CARRERA BOOSTS EFFICIENCY AND EXPANDS DYNAMIC REPERTOIRE

New turbocharged engines: 20 hp more and increased efficiency

The completely new engine generation with twin turbocharging now featured in the 911 Carrera has raised power, efficiency and also intensified the emotional driving experience. As is typical of the 911, at the rear of the Carrera lies a 3.0-litre flat-six engine, developing 370 hp (272 kW). The 3.0-litre flat-six in the Carrera S now delivers 420 hp (309 kW). In both cases this represents a power boost of 20 hp (15 kW) over the prior model. The 911 Carrera S produces more horsepower courtesy of turbochargers with modified turbine compressors, a specific exhaust system and tuned engine management.

The new Porsche engines are characterised by significantly increased torque (60 Nm in each case), and with maximum torque of 450 Nm and 500 Nm respectively delivered constantly from 1,700 rpm up to 5,000 rpm in both cases, thus ensuring responsive performance. At the same time, with a maximum engine speed of 7,500 rpm the new generation clearly exceeds the top revs of conventional turbo engines – and, of course, both are underscored by the typical sonorous Porsche flat-six engine sound.

Every new 911 generation boasts enhanced performance and efficiency compared with their predecessors. The 911 Carrera Coupé with Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Sport Chrono Package sprints from zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds – making it two tenths of a second faster than its predecessor. The 911 Carrera S with PDK and Sport Chrono Package achieves this benchmark in just 3.9 seconds (also 0.2 secs swifter). This means that it is the first 911 in the Carrera family to undercut the magic four second mark. And the top speeds of both models have also increased further: the 911 Carrera now has a top speed of 183 mph (an increase of 4 mph), while the 911 Carrera S now reaches 191 mph (an increase of 3 mph).

The Porsche 911 has always balanced performance and efficiency, sportiness and everyday usability. The new engines further extend the span of these apparent contradictions. Depending on the model, the 911 is now almost 12 per cent more efficient. The 911 Carrera with PDK transmission returns 38.2 mpg Combined (an increase of 3.8 mpg), while the 911 Carrera S with PDK consumes 36.7 mpg Combined (an increase of 4.2 mpg).

In terms of emissions, this translates to 169 g/km CO2 for the Carrera PDK and 174 g/km CO2 for the Carrera S PDK – placing both these models in Band H for the purposes of vehicle excise duty.

Enhanced Sport Chrono Package option with ‘mode switch’

In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package, the 911 Carrera now features a ‘mode switch’ on the steering wheel, derived from the hybrid mode switch of the 918 Spyder. The mode switch consists of a rotary control with four positions for the driving settings “Normal”, “Sport”, “Sport Plus” and “Individual”. Depending on the car’s specification, the latter setting enables drivers to configure their own individual vehicle set-up; eg Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), PDK transmission shifting strategy and sports exhaust system.

In combination with the PDK, the mode switch has an additional “Sport Response Button”. When this is pressed, the drivetrain is pre-conditioned for maximum acceleration for 20 seconds, in anticipation of an overtaking manoeuvre, for example. For a short time, the optimum gear is engaged and the engine management adjusted to an even more spontaneous response.

A standard feature: re-engineered PASM chassis lowers ride height by 10mm

The 911 Carrera is the benchmark for driving dynamics of all-round sports cars. With every new generation, Porsche further increases the spread between everyday comfort and track driving performance. For the first time, the new PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) chassis, which lowers the ride height by ten millimetres, is a standard feature of every Carrera model. It further improves stability during fast cornering. At the same time, new dampers enhance comfort thanks to an even more precise response characteristic as well as improving body control during dynamic driving. The new wheel designs with five slim twin spokes carry tyres with reduced rolling resistance and enhanced performance. Furthermore, on all variants the width of the rear rims has increased by 0.5 to 11.5 inches. The rear tyres of the 911 Carrera S now measure 305 instead of 295 millimetres.

The active rear-axle steering that is available as an option for the 911 Carrera S is chassis technology adopted from the 911 Turbo and 911 GT3 (and 918 Spyder).

It further enhances the turn-in behaviour of the 911. In addition, it makes for high driving stability when changing lanes at high speeds. It also ensures greater manoeuvrability in city traffic thanks to the turning circle reduction of 0.5 metres. The improved handling is transmitted to the driver via the new steering wheel design, based on that fitted in the 918 Spyder. The basic steering wheel has a diameter of 375 millimetres; the optional ‘GT sport’ steering wheel measures 360 millimetres.
For unlimited everyday practicality, customers can choose a hydraulic lift system with integrated lifting cylinders in the struts of the front axle. Pressing a button increases the ground clearance at the nose by 40 millimetres within five seconds and thus prevents the vehicle underbody from hitting the ground, when traversing steep garage exits for example.

New Porsche Communication Management including Online navigation

The new 911 Carrera models feature a development of the Porsche Communication Management System (PCM) including Online satellite navigation and voice control. The PCM can be operated by performing multi-touch gestures on the seven-inch display, similar to operating a smartphone. User inputs by handwriting are also possible. Mobile phones and smartphones can now also be connected via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth™. The smartphone tray is integrated for the first time in the centre armrest, offering battery-saving charging and optimised mobile phone reception. Also new is the option of connecting an iPhone® to the PCM to use Apple CarPlay®.

Real-time traffic information is available for significantly improved route navigation. It gives the driver a quick overview of the traffic situation and guarantees dynamic adaptation of the route to this information. Google Earth® and Google Streetview® are also being integrated for the first time to offer better orientation. Other components of the PCM are Porsche Car Connect and the Porsche Connect app, which can be used for such functions as remote control of vehicle functions, transfer of destinations to the PCM for navigation and use of music streaming services by third-party providers via the PCM.

New and extended optional assistance systems
An extended range of new and improved assistance systems are available on the new 911. The optional automatic speed control can now also brake moderately when the pre-set speed is exceeded, for example when driving downhill. Furthermore, the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) option now has a coasting function in conjunction with the PDK transmission. When driving in a queue the clutches are disengaged, thus saving fuel with unpowered coasting. The optional Lane Change Assist monitors traffic behind with radar and uses LED lamps in the left and right of the mirror triangle to warn the driver about approaching vehicles in the blind spot. In addition, Porsche increases active safety with the multi-collision braking system as a standard feature.

40 years' turbo experience in motorsport and series production

At Porsche, innovations and developments that have proved themselves under extreme racing conditions always benefit production models, too. Testing in motorsport in particular ensures the performance and resilience of new engines for production sports cars. In the development of turbocharged six-cylinder ‘boxer’ engines Porsche can therefore look back on more than 40 years' experience.

For example, turbocharging with a bypass valve was first used in 1972 in the 917/10 racing car before entering series production two years later in 1974, in the first 911 Turbo. In 1974, charge air cooling was also first introduced in the 917/10. In 1977, this technology then celebrated its premiere in the 911 Turbo 3.3. Further milestones in the development of turbo engines include sequential turbocharging with two consecutive turbos (for the first time in the 959 supercar), twin-turbocharging with two parallel turbos (for the first time in the 911 Turbo, Type 993) and adjustable intake valves (for the first time in the 911 Turbo, Type 996).

ONE-TWO RESULT FOR PORSCHE 919 HYBRIDS – LEAD EXTENDED IN WEC

Michael Christensen, Richard Lietz win GTE Pro in Porsche 911 RSR at Nürburging

FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), LMP1, Round 4, Nürburgring

The Porsche Team claimed a one-two result in front of a great crowd at the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the Nürburgring, Germany, this weekend.

The trio of Timo Bernhard (Germany), Brendon Hartley (New Zealand) and Mark Webber (Australia) won the six-hour race in temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius. Right behind them the sister Porsche 919 Hybrid of Romain Dumas (France), Neel Jani (Switzerland) and Marc Lieb (Germany) took second-place. Over the weekend, 62,000 people created a fantastic backdrop for the first German WEC race.

After the maiden victory of the Porsche 919 Hybrid at last year’s finale in Brazil and the recent one-two result at Le Mans in 2015, this is the third major success for the young team and the LMP1 race car with its ground-breaking hybrid technology. For the driver line-up, which includes former Formula One driver Mark Webber, it is the first and long hoped for WEC race win. With this dream result Porsche has extended its lead in the Manufacturers’ World Championship and is now lying 33 points ahead of Audi and 95 ahead of Toyota.

With the relatively short and twisty 5.137 kilometre long circuit and the numerous class categories going at different speeds, the race was action-packed with thrilling lapping and overtaking manoeuvres. The journey taken by the Dumas/Jani/Lieb car en route to second was full of stories. After starting from pole, they lost the lead in the first half of the race because of long ‘stop-and-go’ penalties after a technical problem. While the team usually changed drivers at every fuel stop at the Nürburgring, Neel Jani stayed in the car for 76 laps, which was two and a half ‘stints’ (a stint being typical distance between pit stops). It was also Jani who recorded the fastest race lap at the Nürburgring with a time of 1:37.955 minutes.

How the race went for car number 17:
Timo started from second on the grid behind the sister car. During a “Full Course Yellow” he lost around ten seconds because of slow lapped cars between him and the leading car. Later a damaged nose cone disturbed the air flow over the car, which is why the team decided to pit early. After 24 laps, Timo handed over to Mark, who continued with new front bodywork. Eventually having dropped back to sixth, Mark overtook the number 7 Audi on lap 40 to place second again behind the sister car.

After 56 laps Mark handed over to Brendon, who took the lead on lap 64 when car number 18 was penalised. After 89 laps Timo took over the leading car to hand it to Mark again after 123 laps. During a Full Course Yellow after 144 laps Brendon jumped in again. After 175 laps Mark took over for the final stint and brought the car home to take the victory.

How the race went for car number 18:
Neel defended pole position against the sister car. After 31 laps he handed over to Marc, when leading by over a minute. After 54 laps Marc received the first of, in the end, three so-called ‘stop-and-go’ penalties for the number 18 car. The first was five seconds. When he resumed in the race he battled hard against Mark in the sister car and defended the lead. After 63 laps Romain got behind the wheel, and re-joined in second place. But after 78 laps he was given a 30 second stop-and-go, followed by a 60 second stop-and-go after 82 laps. The reason was a problem with an engine sensor, which caused the car to use more fuel per lap than the regulations allowed.

After 96 laps Neel got back into the car in fourth place. He stayed in the car for a double stint, picking up fuel and tyres after 129 laps. When the next Full Course Yellow was instigated he drove even longer, because he pitted for fuel after only 144 laps. After he overtook the number 8 Audi he was lying third. From lap 167 onwards he was in a breath-taking battle with both Audis. After 172 laps, Neel pitted with the car lying third. Marc took over for the final 45 minutes and improved to second place.

Quotes after the race:
Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board Porsche AG: “After the successful Le Mans weekend we came here with huge expectations. The time since June 14 was obviously very well used and today we have shown what Porsche is able to do. Not only in LMP1, but also in the GTE Pro class. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

Wolfgang Hatz, Board Member Research and Development: “One-two in qualifying yesterday, one-two in the race today with the 919 Hybrid as well as with two Porsche 911 RSR – you just can’t ask for more. Everyone was rewarded for hard work.”

Fritz Enzinger, Vice President LMP1: “To achieve a one-two at the first WEC race on home soil is a dream come true. The new aerodynamic package works very well. This and today’s points brings us a little closer to our goal to win the Manufacturers’ Championship. I also want to thank the entire team back home in Weissach. We are looking forward to the next four six-hour races.”

Andreas Seidl, Team Principal: “For us the race was a bit of a rollercoaster. With the number 17 car we had damage early on, but kept clean after that. The number 18 car had to come in three times for a stop-and-go penalty. Because of a technical problem we had exceeded the energy limit we are allowed. But the drivers never gave up and fought back. Our pit crew was, once again, the benchmark by doing the fastest stops. I also want to thank our tyre partner Michelin for a great co-operation, which played an important role in today’s achievement, especially in regard to the high temperatures.”

Drivers Porsche 919 Hybrid number 17

Timo Bernhard (34, Germany): “We have been close to victory a couple of times and now it has worked out. The start was okay, but during the Full Course Yellow I lost ground due to lapped cars between me and the leading sister car. At some point the car became difficult to drive because of front damage and we decided to pit early for a new nose cone after 24 laps. After a tricky beginning, we managed to fight our way back to the lead. Of course, we were benefitting from the sister car’s bad luck, but we were also doing a good job.”

Brendon Hartley (25, New Zealand): “I’m incredibly happy that we got our first win. After Timo was a bit unlucky in his first stint, everything went smoothly. With the new front nose the car’s performance was back where it should be, and I took the lead when our sister car was penalised. Later we kept our heads down and stayed focussed.“

Mark Webber (39, Australia): “Achieving the second one-two after Le Mans is great for our team. This is my first Porsche victory and, of course, it is a big day for Brendon, Timo and myself, and it is always a team effort. The two of them were awesome, we had no technical issues and took an important step by improving our performance on shorter tracks. Traffic was sometimes brutal today, but we made it.”

Drivers Porsche 919 Hybrid number 18

Romain Dumas (37, France): “The technical problem and the resulting penalties were a huge disappointment today. Finishing second is a great result under the circumstances, and it is certainly important for the Manufacturers’ Championship. We could only fight back in the race because we were strong this weekend, and this for sure goes for our pit crew as well, this has to be mentioned.”

Neel Jani (31, Switzerland): "My first stint still was a dream - pretty much the opposite to the early laps in Le Mans. But then we lost a race win because of the penalties. Battling with the Audis was again interesting. I was faster in the first part of the lap and was able to get past, but then I had to save fuel and they caught me again on the second part of the lap. In the end we managed to beat them.”

Marc Lieb (35, Germany): “It was such a shame we could not win the race because of the penalties. We had been very happy after the pole position yesterday, but today wasn’t our day. It is really frustrating when you are called into the pits to needlessly sit there. Regardless of how our race went, it made me proud to see this huge crowd here at the Nürburgring.”

Porsche 911 RSR clinches one-two on WEC debut at the Nürburgring

After four straight wins in the USA and Canada, Porsche has now made the breakthrough in the Sports Car World Endurance Championship (WEC). At the premiere of the popular race series on the Nürburgring, the Porsche Manthey squad scored its first victory this season in the GTE-Pro class on Sunday. With the 470 hp 911 RSR, which is based on the seventh generation of the iconic 911 sports car, Richard Lietz (Austria) and Michael Christensen (Denmark) finished first ahead of their French team colleagues Frédéric Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet. For Porsche, this marks the first one-two in the WEC since November 2014, when two 911 RSR finished at the front in Shanghai. Consequently, Richard Lietz is the new leader of the World Endurance Cup for GT drivers.

Glorious summer weather in Germany’s Eifel region and 62,000 spectators over the race weekend – everything fitted perfectly at the first appearance of the Sports Car World Endurance Championship in Germany. The squad under team boss Olaf Manthey, who lives just a stone’s throw from the Nürburgring in Meuspath, notched up its long-awaited first victory of the season of all places at the team’s home race after scoring second place at both Silverstone and Spa. This has put the team in a good position for the second half of the season with four races abroad, the first of which is contested in Austin/USA on 19 September.

Just 23 minutes into the six-hour event on the historic race track, Michael Christensen had already moved up to take the lead after starting from fourth in the number 91 Porsche 911 RSR. From then on, the Dane and his Austrian team-mate led the field over the entire distance, with the exception of several pit stops.
For the number 92 Porsche 911 RSR, the race did not run quite as smoothly initially. Due to an alleged jump start, Frédéric Makowiecki received a stop-and-go penalty and was relegated to the back of the field. But with a spectacular pursuit through the field, he and Patrick Pilet made up ground. Midway through the race, the pair went head-to-head with the fastest Ferrari over many laps, with spectators in the grandstands giving them special applause for their gripping performance.

Almost halfway through the race the order was then one-two for Porsche. Richard Lietz in front of Patrick Pilet – with the rest of their rivals already one lap down at this stage. Despite another stop-and-go penalty for the number 92 vehicle, the Porsche triumph remained unchallenged for the rest of the race.

In the GTE-Am class, Hollywood actor and race driver Patrick Dempsey (USA) netted fourth place with team-mates Patrick Long (USA) and Marco Seefried (Austria). The 911 RSR campaigned by the Dempsey Proton Racing customer team – with which the trio celebrated their greatest success to date claiming second at this year’s Le Mans 24 hour race – was even running in the lead over long stretches. In the closing laps, however, it proved not quite enough for a podium finish.
Porsche works driver Earl Bamber (New Zealand) also held the top spot for a long time in the 911 RSR fielded by Abu Dhabi Proton Racing. The Le Mans winner at times turned faster laps than the higher GTE-Pro class contenders. Nevertheless, he and his team-mates Christian Ried (Germany) and Khaled Al Qubaisi (Abu Dhabi) had to settle for sixth place at the flag.

As a guest starter in the KCMG team from Hong Kong, Porsche works driver and Le Mans winner Nick Tandy (Great Britain) won the LMP2 class.

Comments on the race

Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Head of Porsche Motorsport: “We can’t have others beating us in our own backyard. But seriously; this is, of course, the perfect outcome. It wasn’t an easy race, especially as we had to come to terms with some penalties. But the drivers did an excellent job and the team’s strategy worked perfectly. The testing we conducted paid off. It’s a dream to achieve two double victories for Porsche with our LMP1 colleagues in front of a fantastic backdrop. This is as good as it gets.”

Richard Lietz (911 RSR number 91): “First and second - just perfect. We prepared very well for our home race with two productive test sessions and we didn’t let ourselves worry about the crazy weather conditions at the beginning of the week. Since testing, we changed almost nothing on the set-up of our 911 RSR and this paid off.”

Michael Christensen (911 RSR number 91): “My maiden win in the WEC – I’m over the moon. What a perfect weekend. Things didn’t go so well for us at Le Mans, but this was a fantastic comeback. It’s one of the greatest successes in my career. And we’re particularly thrilled that we could score victory for our team on their home track. Many of our mechanics had family and friends here and it must have been a wonderful day for them, too.”

Patrick Pilet (911 RSR number 92): “That was a tough race. Unfortunately we had to deal with two drive-through penalties which cost us a lot of time. It’s a shame, because we had a fast car, good pit stops and a perfect strategy. To score first and second is a great success. We’ll really celebrate today, but from tomorrow on we’ll be focussing on the next race in Austin.”

Frédéric Makowiecki (911 RSR number 92): “The most important thing is that Porsche wins. It doesn’t matter which car is in the front. Winning before such a great backdrop was important for the championship. We mustn’t forget that the season is only halfway through. If we can maintain our focus and make the most of our chances, then we’ll still be a favourite in the fight for the championship.”

Patrick Dempsey (911 RSR number 77): “Naturally I’m a little disappointed. Only two seconds off a podium result after a fantastic race. It was incredibly close at the flag. Now we’re turning our attention to Austin. Eventually our team will be rewarded for all our hard work and the progress that we’ve made.”

Patrick Long (911 RSR number 77): “I really managed to enjoy my stints. They ran perfectly. The consistency and the balance of our 911 RSR were good and our strategy worked well. Unfortunately the extra pit stop put a spanner in the works. Still, despite our lead, it would have been difficult to win. However, a podium result would probably have been possible.”

Earl Bamber (911 RSR number 88): “Our start was great and we held the lead for quite some time. But then we experienced some bad luck and lost a lot of time. Our 911 ran without any problems and that makes us very confident for Austin. What we still need is a little luck.”

It will be just one car in a must-see Aston Martin centerpiece feature at Alexandra Palace, which will also include one of the brand’s newest and most spectacular models, alongside a host of exquisite examples of the brand’s most revered and famous cars.

All will carry incredible stories and offer fascinating snapshots of the development of the Aston Martin brand: ‘A3’ brings a direct link to the dawn of the firm. Donated for the event by the Aston Martin Heritage Trust (AMHT), ‘A3’ has been painstakingly restored over a three-year period, in a project masterminded by the world specialist in pre-war Aston Martin models,

Andy Bell of Ecurie Bertelli.

Built on a Rubery-Owen frame and powered by a 1,486cc monobloc engine, it was fitted with several body styles during its early years. As such, there was much discussion over which bodywork it should be restored with. AMHT decided on a touring version, which was recreated from only old photographs as no original drawings were available. The finished classic was unveiled on 18th April 2009 and has continued to be a halo car for AMHT.

Further details of all the Aston Martin models celebrated at Classic & Sports Car – The London Show will be revealed over the coming weeks.

James Elliott, Classic & Sports Car magazine group editor, said: “Aston Martin is a truly iconic British marque and we are honoured that the Aston Martin Heritage Trust has donated ‘A3’. It really is a beautiful piece of automotive history and will be joined by some very famous examples of its successors. It will be a key attraction for visitors to our inaugural Alexandra Palace event.”

Donna Bannister, Curator, Aston Martin Heritage Trust, said: “With the inaugural Classic & Sports Car – The London Show having such a focus on the British motoring industry, it’s great to be able to showcase such an iconic piece of automotive history. We are really looking forward to sharing ‘A3’ with visitors – something which wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of the many Trust members and benefactors.”

Classic & Sports Car – The London Show will feature more than 300 of the world’s most prestigious classic cars from world-famous collectors and world-renowned classic car retailers.
