Mississippi Gulf Coast's New Hotspot is El Agave

Opened a mere 3 months, Los Angeles native and local owner Mercedes Carranza, has created a gem of a restaurant on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Just blocks from the beach, El Agave serves locals, travelers and vacationers some of the best Mexican cuisine in the Gulfport/Biloxi metropolitan area.

Mercedes Carranza, demonstrates his years of experience with authentic, creative dishes like 1800 agave fajitas, green enchiladas, and huevos rancheros.

From the upscale exterior design appeal of the dining and bar establishment to the vibrant color coordination and cozy feel of the interior, El Agave proffers an atmosphere of gourmet flair and old world charm. The staff are friendly, courteous and are quick to answer questions regarding menu items for inquisitive diners.

A variety of salsas and sauces are freshly prepared to enhance the delectable delights served daily. We recommend trying the green salsa, made fresh by El Agave staff member, "Nacho." A perfect blend of ghost peppers, jalapenos, and pickle peppers make the spicy hot green salsa our pick for dipping tortilla chips and combining with menu choices.

Certainly, this salsa awakens the palette in preparation for delicious dinner selections. For chile heads, the green sauce (462,400 Scoville Heat Units) does not come close to the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T (1,463,700 Scoville Heat Units), yet for most dinner guest, Nacho's creation is hot sauce supreme.

The "House" red sauce, served free with tortilla chips and Red Diablo sauce are two additional blends that are sure not to disappoint.

Nacho told Emerging Magazine staffers, everyone loves his fresh made tamales, among other items prepared by the masterful chef.

Emerging Magazine staffers inquired about El Agave's daily Happy Hour (3 PM to 6 PM) 99 cents margarita special.

Typically, most restaurants offering low cost drink specials seem watered down. El Agave offers legal limit shots of tequila from open to close. Nothing watered down here, and to ensure ice does not melt, adding to a watered down blend, staffers refrigerate their margarita mix ensuring you receive the full, distinct agave flavor.

If you desire old world Mexico atmosphere, friendly staff members, accommodating servers, top-notch margaritas, sauces and great authentic Mexican food at a reasonable cost, El Agave's owner, Mercedes and his wonderful team are ready to serve.

  1. Love this place. My girlfriend and I were driving the scenic Hwy 90 route along the beaches on our way to Mobile, AL., when we found this place on Hwy 49. We loved the food and the persons working there.

I would recommend this to any of my friends traveling or visiting from Cali.
